![]() ![]() Obviously Jasmine loses as she knew she would but she doesn’t ever use the safe word she has with Jafar not even when he takes her on the floor like an animal for their first time which shows how much Jasmine is aware, she wants Jafar even if she doesn’t want the entrapment that comes with him. Jafar even sweetens this deal and adds that if she can get to the front doors before, he catches her, he will let her leave with her inheritance in addition to her freedom and Jasmine takes the risk. While she wants to be free, the thought of being Jafar’s also doesn’t repel her in the way it should. However, they have been playing a little game for a while it seems but now Jafar dares to touch her but he does give Jasmine a choice she can leave with freedom but without her inheritance or she came belong to him. The opening chapter was gripping as we learn that Jasmine’s father has basically sold her to secure an alliance before he is betrayed by Jafar who know owns Jasmine. However, I don’t think any of us could have expected that she would churn out such a dark and gutting social commentary for her adult debut, and she would do it so well. It’s likely that most of Kiersten White’s readers have known from the beginning just what she’s capable of. ![]() ![]() Through there are many angles in the book, to me this was the most important one. Even the people he would have never touched. And he feels belonging equally to everyone with no rules to follow. In the end, when the main protagonist Gora discovers that he is not a Hindu, he had put on himself and on the people around him assuming that they are Hindus and hence ought to live like Hindus, suddenly go away. But at the other end, it highlights all the conditioning that each character lives through and operates from. ![]() And the oppression that they have to go through. You almost end up asking " Do these characters do anything other than talking through the day? " At one level Gora is a simple story of people from different communities falling in love. The story is very simple but the author goes into great detail in the conversations between the characters who indulge endlessly in discussing the ideologies and what should be done. Their strong conditioning that come4s from being a part of the sects. And the most prominent being the layer of the two sects and its followers. Like all good fictions, this is also written in layers. ![]() Protagonists are not people but two sects Hindus and Brahma Samaj. ![]() The story of the book Gora is a piece of fiction that is set in Calcutta around the end of 19th or beginning of 20th century. It simply difference between British on Indian society. In any estimate it deserves to be one of the most important novels in Bengali literature.
